LIGHT POLLUTION

LIGHT POLLUTION
…….. A new threat to our life
Light pollution first made news in 1964, when an observatory was specially placed just to avoid light pollution. However, it wasn’t brought to the attention of most people until June 6, 2002, when the Czech Republic passed the world’s first light pollution law. Since then, light pollution is slowly being recognized by the general public as a major problem.
Type of LIGHT POLLUTION:-
Sky glow, Light Trespass, Over-illumination, Clutter and Glare
Light pollution stops migrating birds of having any way of seeing the moon and stars, they need to use to navigate the direction of their migration, therefore not being able to migrate to the correct place.
Also, sea turtles do not come to shore and nest as often, because they are afraid of the lights. It also affects animal’s eyes as a flash of camera weakens the eyesight of animals.
Glare:- causes sleep problems in humans. Too much light in an apartment shining in from a nearby Street lights & billboard will disturb their sleep.
It also causes headache as when light directly falls into our eyes and affects the sensory nerves.
Also science is being affected by light pollution. Astronomers have no way of observing, or making discoveries with too much light to block the night sky.
Solutions:-
You can lower the amount of light pollution by having lights off when they are not needed. You can also shield yourself from this pollution by putting curtains on a window facing the street or any other disturbing light source.
Light needed in public area with surrounding darks is in the range of 20-100 lux only.

Summer is setting in and such a huge amount of light source in our campus will generate a large source of heat energy which will be further add up by the heat emanating from the Air conditioner.

Outdoor lights are in alarming range and can be categorized as OVER ILLUMINATION in our residential campus and its result are easily visible that most of the birds like parrots and sparrows which were the common sights is now not visible anymore and disappeared. We will also be sinner of bird’s eyes as they are getting blinds.

It is better to be sensitive and must rise above our personal need and greed to think about our mother earth, nature and its habitat which make the universe a place to live. If people like us will not be responsible then whom we will expect to do all these works for the betterment of future generation
